Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today that they have signed two defensemen for their upcoming preseason camp. Brett Thurston, who began a second stint with the club last season, has re-signed, in addition to rookie Kip Workman, who spent the past five years at the University of Manitoba.
Thurston started his professional career when he joined the Eagles for their 2007 playoff run on the way to their second President's Cup championship. After playing the following season in Colorado as well, the 6-foot, 210-pound d-man spent the 2008-09 season in the ECHL. He returned to Northern Colorado last year and set a career high in penalty minutes (112) while tying his career high in points (12).
Workman becomes the second University of Manitoba Bison invited to camp, joining defensive mate David Brown. In five seasons with the Bison, Workman registered 17 points (3-14-17) and 165 PIMs. His best season statistically came last year when he was the school's third-highest scoring blueliner.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound d-man acted as team captain in 2008-09 and was an assistant captain in 2007-08 and again last year. He was also a four-time recipient of the school's Mike Ridley Award, bestowed upon players who exhibit superior athletic ability coupled with good academic standing and a high level of leadership.
The signings brings the number of players under contract with the team for their upcoming camp to 23 (listed below).
The puck drops on the 2010-11 season on Saturday, Oct. 9 when the Eagles take on the Odessa Jackalopes in a preseason game at the Budweiser Events Center; the regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 15. Group tickets for all Eagles home games are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Eagles' office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). Individual tickets will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. and can also be purchased by visiting the BEC Box Office, calling 1-877-544-TIXX (8499) or online at www.ComcastTix.com.
