Colorado Eagles News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- Jeff Blair stopped all 30 shots and recorded his first shutout with the Colorado Eagles as his team beat the Corpus Christi Rayz 3-0 Friday night at the AmericanBank Center. Nick Parillo earned the game-winning goal on the Eagles first goal of the night at the 2:35 mark of the second period and Captain Greg Pankewicz recorded three assists in the victory. Colorado's second ranked penalty killing unit ultimately made the difference as they stopped all 10 of Corpus Christi's power play opportunities. The Eagles improved their record to 26-8-4 and remain in first place in the Northwest Division after getting three of a possible four points in their weekend trip to south Texas.

There was no scoring in the first period and the Eagles even killed a full two minute five-on-three penalty. Corpus Christi out shot Colorado 13-8 in the period but still found themselves in a scoreless tie.

Colorado jumped out early in the second period and took advantage of a power play opportunity when Nick Parillo scored his eighth goal of the season on assists from all-stars Greg Pankewicz and Brad Williamson. Eagles forward Ryan Tobler extended the lead with another power play goal as a result of great passing by the Eagles giving the road team a 2-0 lead going into the third period.

Colorado's defense held strong led by the goaltending of Jeff Blair and recorded the team's second shutout of the season, first for Blair. Fraser Filipic was awarded an empty net goal near the end of regulation after he was the last person to touch the puck when a Rayz player actually scored the goal on themselves. Colorado out shot the Rayz 12-8 in the final frame, and finished their five-game road trip with a record of 2-2-1.

The Eagles come home for a three-game stint at the Budweiser Events Center this Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They take on the Amarillo Gorillas on Wednesday and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday and Saturday, all games are set to start at 7:05 p.m.
