Ice Bats Win 4th Straight, 4-2

For the second straight night, the Ice Bats outperformed their opponent on specialty teams, earning their fourth straight victory with a 4-2 home win over Wichita. The Bats scored three power play goals, and killed six of seven power plays against the league's top power play team. With the win, the Ice Bats stayed within two points of Amarillo for the final Southern Conference playoff position. Austin's Jeff Neufeld opened scoring with a power play goal 4:15 into the contest, and defenseman Darryl McArthur scored a five-on-three power play goal at 14:21. Wichita's Travis Clayton snapped off a wrist shot from the left wing to halve the lead with 27 seconds left in the first. The Bats put the game away in the second period. Forward Gerald Tallaire took advantage of a lucky hop of the puck off the boards for a power play goal five minutes in. And John McNabb sealed the deal with a shorthanded goal at 8:44. Former Ice Bat Daniel Tetrault scored Wichita's lone power play goal 4:12 into the final period, but the Ice Bats killed two more minor penalties, including one in the final two minutes. Defenseman Jonathan Jolette led scoring with three assists, while Ice Bats goalie Matt Barnes stopped 36 of 38 shots faced for his first win in seven starts, dating back to November 26th. 4,663 fans, many of whom also came to take pictures with the Stanley Cup, watched the Ice Bats run their 2006 record to 6-1-1. With the Ice Bats' home game against Corpus Christi originally scheduled for this coming Monday now moved to Tuesday, February 21st, the Bats will return to action at Corpus on Thursday. The team will then host Fort Worth and Oklahoma City next Friday and Saturday night at the Bat Cave.
