Cape Breton Eagles News Release

BATHURST - The Cape Breton Eagles battled at the end of a road trip but couldn't find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday in New Brunswick.

Rémi Delafontaine was on his game in the Cape Breton goal, making plenty of big saves beginning in the first period. Despite the Titan outshooting the Eagles 14-4, it was just 1-0 after the first period as a pinching Miguël Tourigny completed a pass from behind the net from Hendrix Lapierre. The Eagles best chance was not a shot on goal, as Nicholas Girouard wired a shot off the crossbar on the power play.

Early in the second period, Bathurst doubled the lead as defenseman Zach Biggar crept into open space and wired a shot by Delafontaine to make it 2-0. Bathurst then had the opportunity to put the dagger in the Eagles when Carter McCluskey and Emile Perron were sent off to create a two minute 5 on 3 for the home side.

However, the Eagles stood tall and killed off the two minutes. Not long after, there was an opportunity for the Eagles to hit the scoresheet when Riley Pitt was in the box but despite some quality chances the Titan were able to kill the penalty off. And in the final five minutes of the period, Bennett MacArthur found the back of the net from the right faceoff circle to make it 3-0.

Early in the third period, the Titan had a big opportunity to extend the league when FJ Buteau was called for covering the puck in the crease, awarding the Titan a penalty shot. But Delafontaine stood tall, denying Logan Chisholm.

With just over four minutes to play, Eagles coach Chadd Cassidy elected to lift Delafontaine for an extra attacker. The Eagles generated some pressure but it was ultimately the Titan who hit the back of the net when Hendrix Lapierre put the puck into the open cage.

The Eagles will now return home on Wednesday night to take on the Moncton Wildcats! Tickets can be purchased at https://www.ticketmaster.ca/cape-breton-eagles-tickets/artist/891825.
