Cape Breton Eagles News Release

SYDNEY - The Cape Breton Eagles have hired Scott Gouthro as the club's new goaltending coach. He will succeed Charles Grant who was recently named a goaltending development coach for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. Gouthro had served as a goaltender consultant with the Eagles since 2018, and was goaltender & video coach for the Eagles from 2005 to 2014.

Gouthro has an extensive resume as a goaltender coach, highlighted by a three year stint with the NHL's Calgary Flames (2014-2016) as a goaltender development coach, working with AHL teams in Adirondack and Stockton. He was a consultant for Team Canada's gold medal winning team at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Tournament as well as the goaltender & video coach for gold medallist Canada at the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Championship. He has also worked as goaltender coach for Team Atlantic at the World Under 17s, the Cape Breton Tradesmen of the Nova Scotia Major Under 18 Hockey League, and elite under 18 female teams for both Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.

During his playing career, Gouthro played for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in addition to Halifax Oland Exports (Jr. A) where he won a national championship and was the top goaltender at the Royal Bank Cup. Following his junior playing days, Gouthro was a first team all-star in the OUA West (CIS university hockey) in addition to spending time in both the Quebec senior hockey ranks and the minor-pro SPHL.

In addition to Gouthro, the Eagles have hired Jack Cashen as the team's new video intern game coding technician. He will be responsible for use of XO's software during the team's home games. Cashen was drafted by the Eagles in the 14th round in 2019 and attended training camp in 2019 & 2020 while playing nets for the Sydney Rush in the Nova Scotia Major Under 18 Hockey League.

The Eagles are next on home ice this coming Sunday, October 10th, against the Moncton Wildcats at 3PM.
