Eagles in WildTown for Midweek Mayhem
March 21, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Moncton Wildcats News Release
With so much up in the air (no Eagle pun intended) this is another potential Round 1 Playoff preview! Eastern Conference positions 3 through 8 are not yet set, so these 2 points are crucial to both squads.
The Wildcats are shaking off a recent loss to the Mooseheads, but are 8-2 over their last 10 games with hopes to secure home ice advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs. Etienne Morin & Jacob Steinman are coming off huge weeks that saw them named to the QMJHL Team of the Week. The 18 year-old Morin (20G, 45A) leads all QMJHL defencemen in goals and sits 4th in defensive scoring. Steinman won 2 games last week and posted a 2.34 GAA & .923 SV%. Jacob has 20 wins this season.
Wildcats forward Miles Müller remains on the injured list with an upper body injury.
Cape Breton come in to the Den on a 2-game win streak, and 6-4 in their last 10 matches. Their recent success has secured them a playoff spot and they could finish as high as 6th place in the East, avoiding Québec & Halifax in the opening round. The Eagles hold a 5-2 advantage over the Wildcats in their season series.
The Eagles are led by human highlight reel Ivan Ivan (31G, 56A), who is on an 11-game point streak. Ivan has 24 points over that span, including a 7-point performance versus Saint John. Samuel Johnson leads the Eagles in goals with 32. D-men Brayden Schmitt & Zach Biggar add some offence from the back end as well, each with 32 points this season.
