Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME
- Michael Horth's two first period goals helped pace the Charlottetown Islanders to a 3-1 over the Cape Breton Eagles on Thursday night. The win pushed Charlottetown's winning streak to three games.
- Cam Squires scored the lone Eagles goal on the power play in the second period, his 25th of the season.
- Carter Bickle stopped 35 of 36 shots in the win, while Jakub Milota turned aside 33 of 36 shots in the loss.
- Thursday's contest was a rescheduled game after the February 3rd game between the two clubs was postponed due to weather concerns.
A penalty to Cape Breton's Émile Ricard put Charlottetown on an early power play which they would take advantage of, when Horth spun in front of the net at the right side to put the puck by Milota. Horth's second of the night came at even strength when he tipped an Isaac Vos point shot over the red line.
The Eagles had their own power play breakthrough in the middle stanza, with Squires's goal coming at the 7:41 mark- but less than 40 seconds later, Alexis Michaud backhanded an insurance marker by Milota to restore the two goal cushion.
After being outshot in each of the opening two periods, the Eagles applied heavy pressure in the third period, outshooting Charlottetown 19-8. In the final three minutes coach Louis Robitaille elected to pull Milota for an extra attacker but the six skaters on the Eagles weren't able to solve Bickle and Charlottetown skated to a 3-1 victory.
