Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles scored a franchise record of five power play goals in a 6-3 win over the New Mexico Scorpions Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Greg Pankewicz and Scott Polaski each had two goals and goaltender Marco Emond stopped 33 of 36 shots in his second consecutive victory. The Eagles are now 2-1-0 and in third place in the Northwest Division after two weekends of Central Hockey League play. The Scorpions fell to 0-3-0 and are in fifth place in the Southwest Division. The Eagles' next two games are at the Budweiser Events Center this Friday and Saturday, November 3rd and 4th against the Arizona Sundogs.

Scott Polaski scored the first of four consecutive goals for the Eagles in the first period when Aaron Schneekloth put a shot on goal from the top of the slot that sailed wide, but Polaski was there to jam the puck in the net as it bounced off the back boards. That goal proved to be the only one in the opening frame. The Eagles out shot New Mexico 12-5 in the period and finished the first period up 1-0.

Riley Nelson gave the Eagles a two-goal lead on a power play goal only 2:25 into the second period, he was assisted by Greg Pankewicz and Chris Hartsburg. Only three minutes later, Eagles defenseman Aaron Schneekloth scored his first goal in an Eagles' uniform on a nice wrap around chance as he went far post and beat New Mexico goaltender Walter Bartholomaeus. The Scorpions' goaltender was subsequently pulled from the game and replaced by goaltender Brad Smith. Colorado kept up the pressure on the power play and Scott Polaski scored his second goal of the game on assists from Craig Strain and Sean Robertson giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Craig MacDonald got the Scorpions on the scoreboard with a power play goal at the 14:15 mark of the second period ending goaltender Marco Emond's scoreless streak of 90:57, but the Eagles bounced back. Greg Pankewicz scored his first of two goals, a power play goal with two minutes remaining in the period. A total of five goals were scored in the second period and the Eagles headed into the intermission riding a 5-1 lead.

Pankewicz tallied his second goal of the night and 498th of his career on another power play goal only 1:04 into the third period giving the Eagles a 6-1 lead. The Scorpions scored twice more in the period on goals from Ryan McLeod and Chris Robertson making the final score 6-3. The Eagles finished 5-9 on the power play and stopped nine of 12 Scorpions' power plays and a total of 30 penalties were called in the game.

The Eagles' next two games are at the Budweiser Events Center this Friday and Saturday, November 3rd and 4th against the Arizona Sundogs.
