
Eagles Clinch Series in Convincing 6-1 Win Over Youngstown

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles defeated the Youngstown SteelHounds Tuesday night 6-1 at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles won the first round series 4-2 and will now play the Oklahoma City Blazers in the Northern Conference Semi-Finals starting this Friday, April 13 at the Budweiser Events Center. Aaron Schneekloth had a goal and three assists and Marco Emond stopped 32 of 33 shots in his third win of the post-season. Emond became the second goaltender in Eagles history to clinch a series other than Paulo Colaiacovo. Six different Eagles scored and Ed McGrane added three assists as Colorado ended Youngstown's first run in the playoffs in team history. The Eagles will play this Friday night at the BEC in Game One of the Northern Conference Semi-Finals starting at 7:05 p.m.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead on a Seth Leonard goal at the 3:20 mark. It was a four-on-four goal and Aaron Schneekloth and Riley Nelson assisted on the play. The Eagles were then forced to kill a total of five penalties and they killed all five. Youngstown outshot the Eagles 12-8 in the period, but the Eagles held on to the 1-0 lead.
Colorado scored early and often in the second period. Craig Strain took a backdoor pass from Ed McGrane at the 3:12 mark for a power play goal giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Brent Hughes jammed in a rebound at the 4:16 mark on assists from Ryan Tobler and Aaron Schneekloth. At the 9:15 mark, it was Schneekloth who got on the scoreboard giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Jeff Christian made it a 4-1 score when he tipped a Jeff Alcombrack shot into the back of the net. The score remained 4-1 going into the second intermission.
Sean Robertson scored the Eagles third early goal, this time only 45 seconds into the final period. He tipped a Craig Strain shot for the Eagles second power play goal of the game. Brad Williamson scored his first goal of the playoffs, another power play goal with 3:17 remaining to finish out the scoring for Colorado. The Eagles finished 3-8 on the power play and killed all 10 of the SteelHounds' power plays. Final Score: Eagles 6 - SteelHounds 1.
