Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

LOVELAND, COLORADO - The Youngstown SteelHounds came into game six with a wave of momentum and the opportunity to become the first team in Central Hockey League history to come all the way back from being down 3-0. Unfortunately it was the other history, the fact that the Hounds have never defeated the Eagles in the Budweiser Events Center that came to haunt them as Colorado took game six by a score of 6-1 and finished the series 4-2.

In a game loaded with 28 penalties only one goal was scored in the first period as Seth Leonard squeaked a shot past Brad Roberts who was hugging the left post to make it 1-0 Eagles after one period. The second period saw more penalties and even more scoring by the Eagles as Craig Strain scored on the power play from Ed McGrane and Sean Robertson at the 3:12 mark to make it 2-0. Brent Hughes was able to knock his own rebound past Brad Roberts just 1:04 later to give Colorado a 3-0 lead. That was followed by Aaron Schneekloth's third of the series at 9:15 to make it 4-0 Eagles. The Hounds lone bright spot came at the 13:59 mark when Jeff Christian scored his fifth of the playoffs to make it 4-1 Eagles after two periods of play. For Christian it extended his point streak to 11 games counting the regular season.

The third period saw Stephen Margeson and Greg Pankewicz receive misconducts for fighting with under nine minutes to play as the Eagles rifled off two more power play goals as Sean Robertson and Brad Williamson were able to record their first goals of the playoffs to put the Eagles up for good 6-1. The Eagles went 3-8 on the power play while the Hounds were 0-10 in the loss. Marco Emond made 32 saves on 33 Youngstown shots to preserve the win for the Eagles. The Hounds finish their second season with their very first playoff run and will look to retool and be ready to go for next season.
