SYDNEY - The Cape Breton Eagles have chosen defenseman Émile Perron with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the QMJHL draft on Friday night.

Perron was named captain of the Gatineau Intrépide team in the Quebec midget AAA league prior to the season being cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. During the 2019-20 season, he collected seven points in 21 games with the Outaouais Intrépide Bantam AAA club.

The 5'11, 157 pound defenseman was ranked 10th overall heading into the draft by HockeyProspect.com and ninth by QMJHL Central Scouting. He has been described by Eagles co-head scout Jonathan Murphy as a defenseman who "has good size, makes the high percentage play and moves his feet well."

The QMJHL draft resumes tomorrow morning at 10 AM Atlantic time. The Eagles hold 17 picks in the remaining 14 rounds, including two picks in the second round- 22 & 34 (originally belonging to Victoriaville).
