Eagles Choose 20 Players in QMJHL Drafts

SYDNEY - The Cape Breton Eagles selected 18 players this weekend in 2021 QMJHL draft, in addition to two players in the annual draft for American players.
Following the selection of defenseman Émile Perron in round one, the Eagles began Saturday by drafting two players in the second round: forward Cam Squires and defenseman Xavier Daigle.
In total, the Eagles selected nine forwards in the standard draft along with six defensemen and three goaltenders. Seven of the drafted players were from Quebec, six from Nova Scotia, four from New Brunswick, and one from PEI. Among the Nova Scotians chosen were Sydney Rush players Preston Pattengale & Tyson LeFrense.
14 of the 18 players selected in the standard draft were born in 2005, with the exception of 2004 birthdates Jérôme Gilbert, Pattengale, Thomas Pigeon, and Isaac Tremblay. In the American draft, the Eagles choose 2004 born forward Kurt Gurkan from Connecticut and 2005 born goaltender Sam Scopa from Massachusetts.
