Eagles Announce Jacob Newcome Will Return for Home Opener Warmup and Puck Drop

SYDNEY, NS - The Cape Breton Eagles are thrilled to share an inspiring and heartwarming announcement for our season opener on September 22nd.

Jacob Newcombe, a beloved member of the Eagles family, who has shown incredible resilience in his battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, will be making a special appearance in our season opener warmup, and will be joined by a special guest, Avery Pynn.

Newcombe has faced the challenges of cancer with remarkable strength and determination. His unwavering spirit has served as an inspiration to the Eagles family, the Cape Breton community, and hockey fans around the world, and his return to the ice is a testament to his resilience and love for the game.

In a heartwarming gesture, Avery Pynn, a local Cape Breton hero, will be joining Newcombe for a ceremonial puck drop to begin the 2023-2024 season. Pynn, 5, set up a lemonade stand outside his house and raised over $670 for Jacob, his favourite Eagle, and any treatment he may need. Avery's presence at the the home opener is a testament to the strong bonds within the Cape Breton community and the power of collective support.

Time: Warmup begins at 6:30PM, puck drop ceremony at 7

Location: Centre 200, 481 George Street, Sydney
