Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, CO – The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League continued to improve their roster today by signing goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo (coh-lee-ah-coh-voh) and right wing Kevin McDonald.

Colaiacovo, a native of Mississauga, Ontario has played the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), splitting time between the Belleville Bulls and the Barrie Colts. Last season, he posted a 24-21-12 record in 58 games and set career marks in save percentage (.924), goals against average (2.34) and minutes (3,356).

"Paulo's last two years were outstanding in the OHL," said Head Coach Chris Stewart. "He comes highly touted and should do well for us between the pipes."

One season ago, the undrafted 21-year-old twin and brother of Toronto Maple Leaf prospect and first-round draft choice Carlo Colaiacovo got his chance to make a name for himself when he shutout two of the first four opponents he faced at the start of the 2003-04 season. Paulo continued to play well through the month of December, winning six games and receiving honors as OHL Goaltender of the Month. As the Colts season came to a close, he ended the campaign by holding his opposition to one goal or less on 19 different occasions, was named to the OHL ALL-Star team, and received the league's highest goaltending honor by being named the OHL Goaltender of the Year. He closed out his career in the OHL with a record of 82-63-17.

The Eagles opted for goal scoring last week with the signing of their four veterans, today deciding to add defense by obtaining a goaltender in Colaiacovo and a tough, rugged forward in Kevin McDonald.

McDonald, a 5'11", 200-pound right wing comes from the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) where he tallied 21points, including 12 goals and 223 penalty minutes. He has played in a total of 185 professional games in the AHL and the ECHL where he tallied 96 points and racked up 796 penalty minutes. Early in McDonald's pro career, he showed an ability to put the puck in the net as he scored 17 goals with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. That same year, he added five points (3G, 2A) in six playoff games while intimidating his opponents with 10 penalty minutes in the playoffs. McDonald set career highs in goals (17), assists (24) and points (41) in the ECHL with Florida in his first year and established his career high in penalty minutes (296) in 2000-01 with the Roanoke Express.

"Kevin plays with a lot of grit," said Coach Stewart. "He adds speed and quickness to what is already a very fast unit."

There are single-game tickets still available for the upcoming season. The Eagles open training camp on Monday, October 11 at the Budweiser Events Center. Training camp is open to the public. There will be two exhibition games on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 against the Tulsa Oilers before starting the regular season on the road at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
