
'Kings kick it up a notch with KingsFest-ival

SOUTHAVENâLocal residents will have the opportunity to attend a celebration fit for Kings this weekend during the Memphis RiverKings' annual KingsFest on Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
The season kick off event will include games, door prizes, a public skate, limited free food and drink, appearances by the team mascots, team merchandise for sale, appearances by select RiverKings players, the ever-popular Cellular South Slap Shot Inflatable, single game tickets on sale for the first time this season, and the opportunity for season ticket holders to pick up their tickets and try out their seats.
Fans are encouraged to bring the entire family. Fans who have their own skates may skate for free during the event. Cost to rent skates is just $3.
Radio station FM 100 will broadcast the event live from remote. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the DCC. Local area vendors, including Chick-Fil-A and Krispy Kreme, will provide free food for fans to sample. Other event sponsors include 1910 Frameworks.
KingsFest will also feature auditions for National Anthem singers for the 2004-05 season, including solo singers, groups and choirs from across the Mid-South. The 2004-05 roster includes a mix of key RiverKings from the past two seasons, as well as several new faces. Team captain Don Parsons, defenseman and assistant captain Derek Landmesser, veteran forwards Alexandre Mathieu and Brad Mueller, physical forward Riley Cote, and young defensemen Jeremy Goetzinger and Denis Heroux, Jr. have already agreed to terms with Memphis for the 2004-05 campaign.
Also signed is former New Mexico Scorpions defenseman Jeff Cameron, Canadian goaltender David Lemanowicz, NHL prospect Daniel Boisclair, young forwards Allan Carr, Matt Best, Chris Pelletier and Phil Aucoin; as well as AHL regular and Phil's brother, center Keith Aucoin. The RiverKings roster also features former NHL defenseman Ted Crowley.
The Memphis RiverKings will drop the puck on the new campaign at home in an exhibition game on Tuesday, October 19, as they take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
The RiverKings host the Fort Worth Brahmas in the season home-opener four days later, on Saturday, October 23. That contest will feature two players with NHL experience, as the RiverKings' Ted Crowley and the Brahmas' Brad Lukowich help to anchor their respective teams' blue lines.
