
Scorpions Add Six More to Roster

ALBUQUERQUE â Youth has been served. The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League announced the signings of six players today as the start of training camp in Corpus Christi, Texas is just one week away. Goalie Guy (ghee) St. Vincent, defensemen Ivan Svarny (Suh-VAHR-nee) and Jim Quilty and forwards Jordan Bianchin (Bee-AHN-chinn), Marc Bouffard (Boo-FAHRD) and Ryan Power have all signed with the Scorpions for the 2004-05 season.
"We're looking forward to having these six players come to training camp and compete for a roster spot," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "Guy St. Vincent is good friends with Daniel Tetrault and by all reports was outplaying a CHL-veteran goalie in Stan Reddick at the end of last season. Svarny and Quilty will some speed and skill to our blue line, while Bianchin, Bouffard and Power are all big bodies up front with add good speed and solid physical play."
St. Vincent, 22, comes to the Scorpions after playing senior hockey last winter for the Ile-des-Chenes North Stars in Manitoba. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of Ste. Anne, Manitoba posted a 3.75 goals against average in 16 appearances last season with the North Stars. St. Vincent also represented Canada in the Nagano Cup in Nagano, Japan.
Quilty, 26, is entering his second full season after a four-year career at the State University of New York-Potsdam. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound native of Renfrew, Ontario split last season between the Miami Manatees and Lakeland Loggerheads in the World Hockey Association2, posting a combined eight points and 91 penalty minutes in 35 games. Quilty also played 17 games for CHL-rival Oklahoma City at the end of the 2002-03 campaign.
Svarny, 19, spent the past two seasons playing with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Nitra, Slovakia was the top scoring defenseman for the Bulls last year with five goals and 20 points in 64 games. Svarny's coach last season was James Boyd, who played for Scorpions coach Bill McDonald with the Fort Worth Fire during the 1997 CHL playoffs.
Bianchin, 23, played two seasons at the University of Denver with Scorpions defenseman Erik Adams before completing his college career at Northern Michigan University. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is a native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, the same hometown as defenseman Shaun Peet. Bianchin's father, Wayne, played 275 NHL games with Pittsburgh and Edmonton from 1973 to 1980.
Bouffard, 26, played four seasons at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. from 1999 to 2003, where he posted 64 points (33g-31a) in 117 career games. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound native of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario attended training camp last year with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. He is longtime friends with Scorpions goalie Miguel Beaudry.
Power, 26, spent the past five seasons with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of St. John's, Newfoundland posted 12 points and 100 penalty minutes in 77 career games.
Training camp begins next Monday, Oct. 11 in Corpus Christi, Texas, home of the Rayz. Currently signed are: goalies Miguel Beaudry and Guy St. Vincent; defensemen Erik Adams, Aaron Schneekloth, Vladimir Hartinger, Daniel Tetrault, Trevor Hammer, Sam Miller, Jim Quilty and Ivan Svarny; forwards Peter Ambroziak, Andrew Katzberg, Shawn Legault, Konrad McKay, Daryl Moor, Randy Murphy, Mike Oliveira, Mike Possin, Clint Wensley, Jordan Bianchin, Marc Bouffard and Ryan Power.
Season tickets for the 2004-2005 CHL season start as low as $320 and are on sale NOW. Season tickets also include a free entry into the Scorps Rewards prize pool.
