Eagles Add Three More to Roster

September 27, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, CO- The defending Governors' Cup Champion Colorado Eagles announced the re-signing of center Sean Robertson, and the additions of fellow Calgary, Alberta native, defenseman Craig Strain and Californian Cramer Hickey.

Robertson, 28, last season tied his professional career high with 10 goals in four fewer games. His 46 points puts him at 96 in his tenure with the Colorado Eagles, which is sixth on the team's all-time scoring list. On February 2, 2006 he set a franchise, career, and CHL-season high with his six-assist performance against the Oklahoma City Blazers in a 7-3 win. The 6'0", 200-pound center finished his third season as pro, appearing in 159 career regular season games tallying 118 points, including 90 assists. During the 2005 President's Cup Championship season, Robertson scored the Northern Conference series-clinching goal against the Wichita Thunder in Game Six at the Kansas Coliseum. The Championship was the second of his career after winning the Colonial Cup in the United Hockey League with the Muskegon Fury in 2003-04. His pro career began in 1999-00 with the Huntington Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League, following a stellar five-year run in the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Moose Jaw Warriors. After a brief stop in the ECHL, Robertson spent four seasons at the University of Calgary where he led the team with 45 points.

"Sean quietly goes about his business," said Eagles Vice President and Head Coach Chris Stewart. "He is a low maintenance player that he gets the job done."

The Eagles also signed defenseman Craig Strain, a former teammate of Sean Robertson at the University of Calgary. Prior to taking last season off, Strain spent the end of the 2004-05 season with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL where he played in seven games notching an assist and six penalty minutes. The Calgary native spent four seasons in the WHL with Lethbridge, Edmonton, and Moose Jaw before attending the University of Calgary. A solid defensive defenseman, his finest season offensively came as a senior when he posted 19 points in 41 games to finish second in scoring among blue liners. In 2002-03 as a sophomore, Strain finished third overall on the squad with 98 PIM's.

"I coached against him as a player and thought he was one of the hardest hitting players in the WHL," said Stewart. "He has a very fierce competitive nature about him."

American Cramer Hickey was a teammate of former Eagles defenseman Aaron Grosul at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. From San Jose, California, Hickey attended UAF and missed only 17 games over four seasons compiling 28 points in 129 contests. As a junior, he set a career high in points and as a senior he had a career high 34 PIM's.

"Cramer falls into the mold of an Aaron Grosul, a steady player that gets the job done on a nightly basis," said Stewart.

The Eagles are entering their fourth season of play at the Budweiser Events Center. Colorado has won back-to-back Governor's Cups as the regular season champions and they have won the Northwest Division three straight times. Eagles single game tickets are now on sale at all Comcast Ticket Outlets and the Budweiser Events Center Box Office. For more information contact the Eagles office at (970) 686-SHOT.
