
Eagan Leads Black Bears to 5-3 Victory at Home

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears clawed past the Auburn Doubledays on Thursday night with a 5-3 win at Monongalia County Ballpark. LF Clark Eagan went 2-4 increasing his batting AVG to .239. With the WV Black Bears up by one and the bases loaded, Eagan hit a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the fifth followed by CF Sandy Santos scoring on a throw to second during the play putting the Bears on top 4-0. DH Kevin Krause followed Eagan with a single to left bringing in Eagan, moving the score to 5-0.
The Doubledays got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring on a wild pitch and a RBI groundout by C Tres Barrera. Auburn would score again in the top of the eighth on a RBI double by 1B Ryan Ripken making it a 5-3 ballgame.
WV Black Bears starter RHP James Marvel (2-3) took home the win giving up four hits, two runs (earned) and striking out three in six innings. West Virginia's closer RHP Brandon Bingel logged his fourth save of the year, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
The WV Black Bears will be back in action tomorrow, Friday, July 15 at 7:05pm for game two versus the Doubledays. Friday is Fireworks Night at the ballpark as well as a WV Black Bears oven mitt giveaway to the first 1000 fans in attendance.
