BURLINGTON, VT --- David Martinelli and Derick Hall both had two-run base hits, while Arquimedez Gamboa went 3-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Williamsport Crosscutters to a 6-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Thursday night at historic Centennial Field.

Martinelli gave the Crosscutters a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning with a two-run double to left field before Hall's two-run single in the fifth plated two more runs for 5-2 advantage. Those hits came off Vermont reliever Brendan Butler (1-1), who allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts over six innings of work.

Butler came on in relief of starter Brandon Bailey, Oakland''s sixth-round pick out of Gonzaga University, who allowed back-to-back singles and a double stea of home in the first inning. He also struckout two in the first and both batters he faced in the second for four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Vermont got its two runs in the first inning on a two-out, two-run single to rightfield from Eric Marinez to score Miguel Mercedes and Nate Mondou, who went 2-for-3 and is now 15-for-28 over his last eight games.

Starter Bailey Falter (1-3) allowed two unearned runs on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts over six innings to earn the victory for Williamsport (15-12, who have now won its last five games.

Vermont (13-14) will look to end a three-game losing streak when they host Williamsport again on Friday starting at 7:05 pm. It is Princess & Superhero Night at Centennial and one lucky family will win a trip for four to Universal Studios.
