Houston Dynamo FC News Release
The Houston Dynamo fell on the road to the Chicago Fire Saturday afternoon at Toyota Park. Fire FW Arturo Alvarez scored the game-winning goal as Houston moves to 0-6 on the road this season.
The Fire (2-5-4, 10 points) seized the lead in the third minute of the match. Houston native and Fire FW Arturo Alvarez capitalized after the Dynamo failed to deal with a curled through ball from FW Gilberto. Both GK Tyler Deric and D DaMarcus Beasley converged on the ball but neither took charge as Alvarez won the ball and tapped into an empty net from eight yards for a 1-0 lead.
The Dynamo (3-7-2, 11 points) came close to equalizing in the 82nd minute as substitute FW Mauro Manotas used a great first touch to settle a cross from MF Andrew Wenger, quickly turned, and fired a low shot from 10 yards that was straight to Fire GK Sean Johnson.
The 20-year-old Colombian came closer in the 87th minute, turning in midfield and driving toward goal before driving a left-footed shot from 25 yards that was bound for the upper corner but palmed aside by Johnson with a dive.
Another Dynamo scoring chance in the second half started with a corner kick in the 80th minute that resulted in a second cross from MF Andrew Wenger that D Agus Garcia headed wide.
Next up, the Dynamo host Real Sociedad of Spain's Liga BBVA in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Houston returns to MLS play to continue a three-game road swing at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 28 at BC Place.
