CHARLESTON, SC (Tuesday, July 7, 2009) -- The Houston Dynamo will continue their run in the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tonight with a road quarterfinal match against the Charleston Battery. The game will pit the Dynamo, currently sporting the best record in Major League Soccer, against Charleston, currently in first place in the United Soccer Leagues First Division.

The game, to be played at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, can be seen online at USLLive.com at 6:30 p.m. CT and can be heard on 790 The Sports Animal, joined in progress at 7 p.m. CT.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States. It is a single-elimination tournament open to any team in the country, often pitting regional rivals against each other. The winner of the Houston-Charleston match will face either the Seattle Sounders or the Kansas City Wizards in the semifinals.

The Dynamo reached the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over the USL1 Austin Aztex last Wednesday on goals from Corey Ashe and Dominic Oduro. Houston is trying to reach the Open Cup semifinals for the second time in four years and first since 2006. The Dynamo are 2-1 on their current road trip, which could be extended to seven games if the Dynamo win tonight. Houston will be without forward Brian Ching, midfielder Stuart Holden, and defender Andrew Hainault due to their participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. On the injury front, forward Cam Weaver and defenders Wade Barrett and Eddie Robinson are expected to miss the match.

Charleston has eliminated the Dynamo from the Open Cup in each of the last two seasons, winning in overtime in 2007 and on penalty kicks in 2008, both at Blackbaud Stadium. Last year, the Battery made it to the Open Cup final before losing 2-1 to D.C. United. This year, Charleston is in first place in USL1 after a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon at Montreal. The Battery have posted 13 shutouts in 19 competitive matches, with veteran goalkeeper Dusty Hudock sporting a 0.25 goals against average in all competitions.

After Wednesday's game, the Dynamo will travel to face the Seattle Sounders at Qwest Field in Seattle on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT. The Dynamo will be without starting center backs Bobby Boswell and Geoff Cameron for that game due to yellow card accumulation. Houston's next home game is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, against the New England Revolution.

The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and qualified to represent the United States in four consecutive regional championships.
