Houston Dynamo FC News Release
The Houston Dynamo earned a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday night. Brad Davis and Brian Ching provided the goals for Houston, which improved to 4-0-2 in its new stadium.
The game marked the debut of Honduras international Boniek Garcia, who started on the right side of a 4-3-3 formation for the Dynamo. Garcia made an immediate contribution, starting the play in the 19th minute that led to Davis's goal to earn his first assist. Garcia played a ball to Macoumba Kandji from the right flank to the top of the box. Kandji laid the ball off the an onrushing Davis, who delivered a superb finish into the far side-netting for a 1-0 lead.
It was Davis' 25th regular season goal with the Dynamo. The midfielder moved past Dwayne De Rosario into second on the Dynamo franchise scoring list.
A minute after halftime Philadelphia found the equalizer. Keon Daniel received a pass from Brian Carroll 25 yards from goal, turned and quickly took a left-footed strike that tied the score, 1-1.
Ching entered as a substitute in the 74th minute and provided the key moment of the game eight minutes later. Ching found a good position in the box to receive a cross from the left flank and was pushed in the back by Union midfielder Gabriel Farfan. Ching was awarded a penalty kick and converted the spot kick with a well-struck shot off the underside of the cross bar.
It was the 79th career regular season goal for Ching, who is now tied with Preki for 14th on the all-time Major League Soccer scoring list.
It was also Ching's 20th career game-winning goal.
Davis also surpassed 20,000 regular season minutes in his MLS career.
It was Corey Ashe's 184th Dynamo appearance in all competitions as he moved into a tie for second on the franchise list with Brian Mullan.
It was Geoff Cameron's 99th regular season start to pass Wade Barrett for sixth on the franchise list.
The Dynamo improve to 6-5-5 (23 points) through 16 games and remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Dynamo resume MLS action on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. CT when they host the Chicago Fire (7-3-5) at BBVA Compass Stadium. It is Military Appreciation Night, with postgame fireworks and partial proceeds of Brad's Brigade ticket purchases benefitting the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Texas Chapter.
