Dunnigan inducted into CFL Hall of Fame

WINNIPEG, MB - One of the greatest players to ever throw a pigskin for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will soon be enshrined in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Quarterback Matt Dunnigan is among four players and one builder who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Hamilton later this year. The official announcement was made earlier today.

Dunnigan joined the Blue Bombers as a free agent in 1992 and spent three seasons with the football club. The fiery field leader helped guide the Blue & Gold to three consecutive Eastern Finals and two Grey Cup appearances. He is the only CFL quarterback to lead four different teams to the Grey Cup.

Dunnigan still holds several Bomber team records including most passing yards in a game (713, July 14, 1993 vs Edmonton), most 400-yard passing games in a career (5) and most 400-yard passing games in a season (3 in 1994). He finished his Bomber career completing 791 of 1,442 passes for 11,504 yards and 78 TDs and rushed 168 times for 981 yards.

In total, Dunnigan played in 194 regular season games during his 14-year CFL career which also included stints with Edmonton, B.C., Toronto, Birmingham and Hamilton. He was a five-time divisional All-Star (1985, '88, '93, '94, '95) and three-time CFL All-Star (1985, '88, '95). He finished his CFL career completing 3,057 of 5,476 passes for 43,857 yards and 306 TDs.

Since his retirement, Dunnigan has worked as a broadcaster on TSN's Friday Night Football telecasts for six seasons. He also spent the 2004 season as head coach, general manager and offensive coordinator of the Calgary Stampeders.
