
Dunedin Falls to Clearwater in Series Finale

DUNEDIN, FL - Anthony Alford hit his second homer with the Dunedin Blue Jays (53-68) in the fifth inning and Andy Fermin drove in a pair, but it was the Clearwater Threshers (70-53) coming on top of the series finale, 6-2.
Clearwater jumped out to two-run lead in its first at-bat. Rhys Hoskins doubled home Jesmuel Valentin for the game's first run and Andrew Pullin followed suit, driving Dylan Cozens home on a single.
The Threshers plated two more in the third to extend their lead to 4-0, but both runs were unearned. Pullin came up with his second RBI base knock of the game during the inning.
The D-Jays cut into the lead with a tally in the fourth and another tally in the fifth. Derrick Loveless picked up an RBI by sending Andy Fermin across home plate. Anthony Alford then blasted his second homer of the season with Dunedin an inning later, bringing the D-Jays to within 4-2.
Mitch Walding added some insurance for Clearwater by singling home Carlos Tocci in the 8th. Valentin picked up his second RBI of the game later in the inning by driving in Chace Numata on a sacrifice fly.
Derek Blacksher suffered the loss for Dunedin falling to 0-1 and Mark Leiter earned the win for Clearwater improving to 5-1. Alexis Rivero tallied his second save.
The Dunedin Blue Jays will hit the road opening a three-game series tomorrow, Thursday, August 20th against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Jeremy Gabryszwski will start the series for Dunedin against Endrys Briceno of Lakeland. The Jays will return to Dunedin on Thursday, August 27th to begin a three-game series against the Flying Tigers.
