Duncan named MVP of Arizona Fall League

(Trenton, NJ) - National baseball publication Baseball America is presenting Trenton Thunder INF Eric Duncan with "The Joe Black Award" as the top player in the Arizona Fall League tonight as part of the Baseball Winter Meetings. The league is made up of the top prospects from all 30 Major League organizations with games played in October and November.

The award will be presented as part of the Baseball America Annual Awards Gala tonight at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas, TX.

Duncan, who will celebrate his 21st birthday on Wednesday, was among the Arizona Fall League leaders in almost every offensive category. He led the league in slugging % (.734), while being 2nd in runs scored (26). Duncan was also among the "Top 5" in home runs (8), runs batted in (27), doubles (9) and total bases (69).

He finished the Arizona Fall League season with a .362 batting average (8th overall) and had a .423 on-base % (7th overall), playing mostly at 3rd Base.

Duncan, a Florham Park, NJ native, played 126 games for the Thunder during the 2005 season, helping the team to a berth in the Eastern League playoffs. He entered the season rated by Baseball America as the #1 prospect in the New York Yankees Minor League system and the #36 prospect overall. Duncan had a .235 batting average with 19 HR and 61 RBI for the Thunder.

He was selected by the New York Yankees with the 1st Round pick (#27 overall) in the 2003 June Draft out of Seton Hall Prep.

The 2006 season gets underway on Thursday, April 6th with the Thunder visiting the Altoona Curve, Double-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The "Home Opener" is against the Connecticut Defenders, Double-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, on Thursday April 13th at 7:05 PM.
