Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The thesaurus is running out of words to describe the season that Mooseheads star forward Jordan Dumais is enjoying. Dumais was at his best again on Wednesday night by scoring at least six points for the fourth time this year in a 9-0 Halifax annihilation of the Charlottetown Islanders at Scotiabank Centre.
The Blue Jackets prospect scored twice and added four assists to pull within one point of Ramzi Abid's single season franchise points record of 137. Dumais set a new Mooseheads season record for assists with 82 and surpassed Maxime Fortier for second in all-time points scored for his career with 274. He has truly become one of the most incredible players to ever put on the red and green of a Halifax Mooseheads uniform.
Not to be left out, Josh Lawrence also had a pretty good evening by picking up five points on the strength of two goals and three assists to get a little closer to the 50-goal plateau. Lawrence is sitting on 47 with two games remaining in the regular season. If he could reach that mark it would give the Herd three 50+ goal scorers with Dumais at 54 and Alex Doucet at 57. The last time any team in the QMJHL had three teammates with 50 or more goals came all the way back in 1993-94 when the Shawinigan trio of Robin Bouchard, Dave Tremblay and Alain Savage Jr completed the feat.
Despite a bit of a sluggish start by the home team, it was obviously all Mooseheads in this one as they dominated every facet of the game en route to the 49th win of the season. The Herd became the first QMJHL team to 105 points this season thanks to their record of 49-10-4-3. Quebec also reached 105 points later in the night with a win over Shawinigan and will continue to hold the lead over Halifax for first place in the standings because they have more regulation wins.
Goal scorers for the Mooseheads included two each from Dumais and Lawrence and singles from Dylan MacKinnon, Attilio Biasca, Alex Doucet, Jake Furlong and Reece Peitzsche. Mathis Rousseau was not busy at the other end of the ice while picking up his fourth shutout of the season and league leading 36th victory with 20 saves.
The Mooseheads will head into the final weekend of the regular season as the number two seed in the Eastern Conference which at this point would mean a first round playoff matchup with the Cape Breton Eagles. A playoff matchup that hasn't occurred since Jakub Voracek and the Mooseheads disposed of the Eagles in five games in a 2008 second round series. Cape Breton scored an overtime victory over Moncton on Wednesday to pull the Eagles three points ahead of Charlottetown.
Halifax will host both Cape Breton and the Islanders again to close out the regular season this weekend at Scotiabank Centre. First up are the Eagles on Friday night at 7pm when the Moose are set to welcome Nova Scotia's Silver Medal winning women's Canada Games hockey team to the ice in a special pregame ceremony. Then on Saturday it's Halifax and Charlottetown at 4pm when the three graduating 20-year-old players will be honoured in the pregame as well as the billet families of the Mooseheads. It's your chance to join in the fun and watch to see Jordan Dumais take a crack at making Halifax Mooseheads history. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
Mooseheads playoff tickets for Games #1 & #2 will go on sale Friday morning at 11am also at TicketAtlantic.com.
