The Duluth Huskies (1-0) sent a Wade Stadium crowd of nearly 3,500 home happy by manufacturing a run in the bottom of the ninth to take a 1-0 decision over the visiting Willmar Stingers on opening night.

First baseman Alex Wojciechowski led off the ninth with an infield single and ended up coming all the way around to score on a sacrifice bunt by designated hitter T.J. Martin. A miscommunication among the Willmar infield left third base uncovered, and Wojciechowski continued to third and scored on an errant throw.

Wojciechowski and shortstop Alex Greene led the way for the Huskies offense with two singles each, but the story of the night was pitching. Lefty Bo Hellquist started and went five complete, scattering three hits and striking out three, but it was closer Jordan Cummings, who picked up the win with a shutdown ninth inning. Righties Kevin Folman and Josh McLaney held down the middle innings to get to Cummings.

The Huskies will be back in action at the Wade against the Waterloo Bucks Saturday after a two-game set in Eau Claire.
