Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 14, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks ended their 2008 regular season home slate on a positive note on Sunday, defeating the York Revolution 12-7 before a past-capacity crowd of 6,254 in the rubber game of their three-game series at Citibank Park. Coupled with a Southern Maryland loss, the Ducks lead the Liberty Division by three-and-a-half games with seven left to play.
Carl Everett started big day for both himself and the Ducks with a two-run double in the first. Everett went 3-for-5 and later added an insurance three-run homer in the seventh. The blast was Everett's 27th of the season, tying him with Kimera Bartee and Henry Rodriguez for the Ducks single-season record. Damian Rolls homered twice in the game, and Juan Francia scored three runs from the leadoff spot. Every member of the Ducks lineup had at least one hit. York was paced by Matt Esquivel, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three-run homer, and Sandy Aracena, who had a two-run shot and an RBI double.
Lance Davis (4-4) turned in six and one-third innings, allowing seven runs - four of which were earned - on nine hits in the winning effort. Corey Thurman (11-8) took the loss, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Julio Manon threw one and two-third no-hit innings, striking out the first two batters he faced.
The Ducks hit the road for the final seven regular season games of 2008. Long Island visits Camden on Monday for the start of a three-game set at Campbell's Field at 7:05 p.m. Fans can tune into the game live via streaming webcast at www.liducks.com, with Ducks radio voice Chris King calling the action.
