Long Island Ducks News Release
Central Islip, N.Y. - Pat Ahearne entered the evening with a flawless 3-0 record and, after tossing six scoreless frames, the righty was a perfect 4-0 on the season as the Ducks topped the Somerset Patriots 3-1 on Friday night.
After Ahearne stepped off the hill in the sixth with a 3-0 lead, manager Don McCormack turned to the pen to seal the victory. Pete Hartmann followed Ahearne's lead with a scoreless seventh. Somerset touched Mike Crudale for their only run in the eighth. In the game's final frame, McCormack turned to his trusty closer Todd Erdos to finish out the game. The save moved Erdos into a tie for the franchise saves record with Matt Wagner (36).
Offensively, the Ducks posted five singles on the night with Mel Stocker leading the charge with two RBI. Catcher Brad King drove in the Ducks other run.
Ahearn (4-0) picked up the win after fanning five without issuing a walk. Ben Crockett (2-2) took the loss for Somerset after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in six innings. Erdos picked up the save (4) after tossing a scoreless ninth.
