Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 2, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks, members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, today announced that they have signed right-handed pitcher Tim Cain to a contract for the 2006 season.

"Tim is a great addition to our team and pitching staff," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "He is a proven winner who has an intimate knowledge of the batters in this league. We look forward to seeing him take the hill for us."

The Springfield, Mass. native is entering his ninth season of Atlantic League play, and 16th in professional baseball. Over the course of his Atlantic League career, he has appeared in 171 games (163 starts) with Bridgeport and Newark, amassing a league record 65 wins and is one of only three players in league annals to have been active for all nine Atlantic League seasons (Will Pennyfeather; Angel Espada).

He experienced his finest season as a pro in 2004 with the Bluefish, when he led the league with a 12-3 record in 24 appearances (23 starts). Ducks fans may best remember Cain as the starting pitcher for Bridgeport in both the July 12 and August 9 games of that season which were so crucial in helping Long Island secure its first league championship. Cain was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round of the 1990 draft.

The Long Island Ducks are in their seventh season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have averaged over 100 percent attendance capacity of 6,002-seat Citibank Park in each of their first six seasons and are one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
