(Central Islip, N.Y., Apr. 29, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 2-0 on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game set at Citibank Park.

Pitching was strong as starter Jon Searles (1-0) picked up his first victory of the year by shutting out Lancaster over six innings of work. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Ben Grezlovski, Tom Martin and Joe Valentine finished off the game, each pitching one inning and striking out two. Matt Nannini (0-1) was the hard-luck loser for the Barnstormers, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out three.

Kevin Haverbusch had the lone RBI on the night, driving in Carl Everett from second base in the sixth with his third double of the season. Haverbusch would score two batters later on a throwing error by third baseman Vasili Spanos.

The Ducks continue their three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday at Citibank Park. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m., and the ballpark gates open at 5:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Webbed Foot Logo T-shirts, courtesy of Sabrett.
