CAMDEN, NJ - The Riversharks carried the momentum of the weekend sweep into Tuesday's doubleheader with the Somerset Patriots, winning 6-0 and 4-2.
The day saw the debut of two major Spring Training acquisitions for the Riversharks. Righthanders Ryan Drese and Brian Lawrence threw for Camden. In the first game, Drese gave up one run in five innings and struck out three.
Drese collected his first Atlantic League win with a little help from his new friends. With the bases loaded, designated hitter Josh Rabe sacrificed to center for one. With runners on second and third, first baseman hit a two-run double down the right field line. Then, with two on, third baseman smashed his second homerun to right.
The Patriots were held to two hits by the one-two punch of Drese and reliever Tony Peguero. Peguero pitched struck out two in two innings of work.
The Riversharks took an early lead in game two on an RBI single from Rabe but lost it in the next frame when Somerset centerfielder Jeff Duncan tripled with two men on, bringing the score to 2-1.
The Riversharks locked on in the third with two more runs and added an insurance score in the fourth.
Lawrence was yanked after four innings. He gave up six hits and stuck out two. Reliever Mike Flannery earned the win after two innings of work; Buddy Hernandez earned the save after one.
Rabe and Bonvechio each finished the doubleheader with three RBIs apiece.
