Long Island Ducks News Release
(New Britain, Conn.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 2-1 in 11 innings on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.
The Ducks plated the game's first run in the opening inning on a two-out RBI single to center field from Sean Burroughs off Bees starter Josh Outman. Anthony Hewitt tied the game in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left-center off Ducks starter John Brownell.
Both sides were unable able to push across a run again until the bottom of the 11th. Following a walk and a single with two outs, Greg Golson blooped a single down the right field line to push across the winning run.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out three, while Outman also gave just one run over six innings on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Shawn Haviland (1-0) came away with the win after a perfect 11th inning, and Kevin Vance (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding a run on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Lew Ford led the Flock with two hits at the plate.
