Long Island Ducks News Release

(Lancaster, Penn., May 6, 2013) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-3 on Monday night in the first game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Long Island struck first for the fourth consecutive game on a two-out RBI single in the second by Danny Perales off Barnstormers starter Dwayne Pollok. Lancaster answered back in their half of the frame on Ryan Harvey's leadoff solo homer to left off Ducks starter Matt Way.

It stayed that way until the sixth when Josh Barfield launched a one out solo homer to left-center to give the Ducks the lead. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Petey Paramore reached on a fielding error and Tsuyoshi Takashima followed with a two-run homer to left to put the Barnstormers ahead 3-2.

In the ninth though, the Ducks rallied for three runs with two outs in the inning to steal the lead back. A RBI single to left by Ryan Strieby tied the game at three, and two more runs scored when Joash Brodin's ground ball went between the legs of Daryle Ward at first.

Both starters pitched well but neither factored into the decision. Way tossed seven innings, allowing just three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out seven and Pollok pitched seven innings, yielding two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. James Houser (1-0) collected the win after pitching a perfect eighth inning while Yoslan Herrera (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on three hits in the ninth inning. Leo Rosales earned his third save of the year and second in as many days with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Perales, Streiby, Barfield, Ray Navarrete and Ramon Castro each had two hits to lead the Ducks' 12-hit offensive assault.

The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday morning. Game time is slated for 11:00 a.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. MLB veteran Dontrelle Willis takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Jay Buente.
