Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks, led by first baseman Doug Jennings' 4 for 4 and three RBI performance, defeated the Somerset Patriots 12-2 in front of 5,654 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

Long Island took a 6-1 lead with a four run sixth inning. Left fielder Derrick Gibson led off with a double to left field and catcher Jamie Pogue followed with a single through the left side to put runners on first and third and no outs. Second baseman Elvis Pena singled up the middle to score Gibson and shortstop Kevin Baez's sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third. Center fielder Kimera Bartee walked to load the bases and third baseman Rusty McNamara hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Pogue. Jennings drove in Pena and Bartee with a two-run double to give the Ducks a five run lead.

The Ducks added a six run eighth inning to take a commanding 12-2 lead over the Patriots. Bartee drew a walk and moved to third on a single by McNamara. Jennings drew a walk to load the bases and designated hitter Pat Lennon's sacrifice fly drove in Bartee. Right fielder Mark Whiten singled to score McNamara and an error by third baseman Jeff Nettles allowed Gibson to reach bases and Jennings to score. Pena walked to load the bases and Baez drove in Whiten and Gibson with a two-run single. Bartee followed with an RBI single for the 12-2 final score.

The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Gibson singled to right, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Pena. Long Island added a run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Bartee singled to left, advanced to second on a passed ball, and came around to score on an RBI single by Jennings.

The Patriots cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Third baseman Jeff Nettles reached on an error and moved to second base. Designated hitter Greg Blosser drew a walk and catcher Robinson Cancel drove in Nettles with an RBI single to right center field.

Somerset added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-out bases loaded single by shortstop Matt Dryer that made the score 6-2.

Ducks starter Jason Navarro (2-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on two hits and nine strikeouts in six innings pitched. Somerset starter Mike Oquist (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in over five innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2003 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, May 18th against the Long Island Ducks at 2:05 pm. Sunday's game includes Commerce Bank Autograph Books for the first 2,000 fans.
