Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks split a day/night doubleheader with the New Britain Bees on Saturday at Bethpage Ballpark, winning game one 6-0 in seven innings and dropping game two 9-7.
In game one, the Ducks opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning off Bees starter Josh Zeid. Dan Lyons drove in a run with a double to left field and later scored on a fielding error by Jon Griffin. Cody Puckett extended Long Island's lead to three with a two-out RBI single to center in the third.
Two more runs crossed the plate for the Ducks in the fourth, as a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Lyons and a RBI double to left by Lew Ford upped the lead to 5-0. A two-out RBI single to left-center by Ford in the sixth rounded out the scoring.
Ducks starter Jack Snodgrass (4-3) earned the win with six shutout innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Zeid (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and one walk over six innings with six strikeouts.
Ford and Fehlandt Lentini each had three hits to lead the Flock, with Ford driving in two runs and Lentini scoring twice. Lyons added two hits and finished with two RBI and a run.
In the nightcap, the Bees struck early when Craig Maddox hit a two-run home run in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Ducks cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the first as Lyons punched an RBI single to center. Ford tied the game in the third inning with an RBI single, evening the score at two.
In the fourth, the Bees jumped out in front 4-2 on an RBI double from Kevin Rivers and an RBI bunt single by Jon Jones. Anthony Vega's sacrifice fly in the fourth cut the Bees' lead to 4-3, but New Britain countered in the fifth with an RBI double by Jonathan Roof to take a 5-3 advantage. Jovan Rosa's grand slam in the sixth inning put the visitors in front 9-3.
The Ducks added one in the seventh as Tyler Colvin scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 9-4. Long Island would rally in the ninth inning for three runs with Mike Dowd's RBI single, a wild pitch, and an RBI groundout by Colvin to make it 9-7. However, they could not complete the comeback.
Craig Stem (2-4) snagged the win tossing three innings of one-run ball in relief of New Britain starter Brandon Fry, who did not factor into the decision. Fry gave up two runs on three hits over three innings while striking out two and walking two. Long Island starter Bruce Kern (0-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits over four and one-third innings while striking out three and walking three.
Lyons led the Flock at the plate with three hits, adding one RBI and two runs. Ford, Lentini, and Colvin each added two hits.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders).
