Ducks Sign Wassermann

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 24, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of pitcher Ehren Wassermann. He begins his first season with the Ducks and first in independent baseball.

"We are very pleased to add Ehren to our pitching staff," says Ducks manager Kevin Baez. "His experience pitching at such a high level will be extremely valuable for us."

Wassermann will be entering his ninth season of professional baseball. He spent the 2010 campaign with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, appearing in 18 games and striking out 12 batters in 26 innings. The right-handed submariner pitched for Triple-A Charlotte in the Chicago White Sox organization the previous three seasons, compiling a record of 12-7 with a 2.54 ERA and 13 saves.

The Alabama native reached the Major Leagues with the White Sox in 2007, posting a 1-1 record with a 2.74 ERA in 33 games. Wassermann also pitched for the White Sox in 2008, appearing in 24 games. The 30-year-old's best overall season came in 2005, when he combined to post a 6-2 record with a 1.61 ERA and a league-leading 20 saves in 56 games with Single-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham. A graduate of Samford University, Wassermann was originally signed as an amateur free agent by the White Sox in 2003.
