
Ducks Shut Out Patriots 3-0

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY- The Long Island Ducks shutout the Somerset Patriots 3-0 in front of 7,006 fans at Citibank Park on Saturday evening.
Long Island broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead when shortstop Juan Francia hit a one out bloop single to shallow center and scored on a two run home run (7) to left by centerfielder Lew Ford.
The Ducks added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 3-0 when rightfielder Johnny Hernandez hit a one out triple to right center and came home on an RBI single to right by catcher John Pachot.
Ducks' starter B.J. LaMura (7-7) picked up the win, throwing seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six and walking three. Patriots' starter Jim Magrane (11-4) suffered the complete game loss, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out nine in eight innings pitched. Ducks' closer Bill Simas pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 17th save of the season.
With the loss the Patriots dropped to 19-10 in the second half and 62-37 overall while the Ducks improved to 13-15 and 50-48 overall.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday, August 11th when the Patriots return home for a 7:05 pm against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
