Ducks Soar Over Patriots

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 8, 2009) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 3-0 on Saturday before a past-capacity crowd of 7,006 at Citibank Park.   Ducks' starter B.J. LaMura and Patriots' starter Jim Magrane were hooked up in a pitchers' duel until the last of the fifth. Lew Ford's two-run homer deep over the left field wall broke a scoreless game and gave the Flock a 2-0 advantage.   John Pachot's RBI single in the sixth scored Johnny Hernandez, who ripped his fourth triple earlier in the frame and the Ducks increased their lead to 3-0.   LaMura (7-7) picked up the win firing seven innings, yielding three hits and no runs, while fanning six. Magrane (11-4) suffered the loss tossing eight innings, surrendering eight hits and three runs, while striking out nine.   Joe Valentine and Billy Simas pitched two scoreless innings to preserve the victory, with Simas nailing down his league-leading 17th save.   Long Island and Somerset conclude their weekend series on Sunday. Game time is set for 5:05 p.m., with the Citibank Park gates opening at 4:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive All-Time Team Card Sets, presented by Nicolock. Prior to the game, fans are invited down to the field for a pre-game autograph session, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Following the pre-game autograph session the Ducks will celebrate the club's 10th Anniversary, welcoming members of the All-Time team and other special guests for a pre-game ceremony and walk down memory lane. Fans are invited back down to the field after the game for Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Fans can tune into all the action live via streaming webcast at and on 1440 AM WNYG, with Chris King calling the play-by-play.
