(York, Pa.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 12-3 on Friday night in the opening game of the 2019 regular season at PeoplesBank Park.
Long Island took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Steve Lombardozzi tripled to right field off Revolution starter Ross Detwiler and scored two batters later on a fielding error by Ryan Dent. York responded in the second when Corey Bass hit a three-run home run to right-center field off Ducks starter Bennett Parry.
It stayed that way until the sixth inning when the Ducks plated six runs to take a 7-3 lead. Matt den Dekker's two-run home run to right-center and RBI singles from Rey Fuentes and Lombardozzi highlighted the inning. Fuentes' two-run single in the eighth extended the lead to six.
Long Island rounded out the scoring at 12-3 with three more runs in the ninth. Bases loaded walks by Fuentes and Lombardozzi, along with a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Kirk Nieuwenhuis, did the damage.
Parry (1-0) picked up the win, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Robert Morey (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen. Detwiler did not factor into the decision but surrendered just one unearned run on three hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Joe Iorio, Jose Cuas and Tucker Healy combined to pitch four scoreless innings of relief for the Ducks.
Fuentes and Lombardozzi each had three hits to lead the Flock. Fuentes drove in four runs, while Lombardozzi added two RBIs and two walks.
The Ducks and Revolution continue their three-game series on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming video and audio will be available via BoxCast on LIDucks.com, Facebook Live and the Ducks official YouTube channel.
