Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., October 14, 2004) â Despite winning an Atlantic League championship and setting numerous attendance records, the Long Island Ducks announced today that ticket prices for the 2005 season will be unchanged. The Ducks, who will begin defense of their title in late April, 2005, will have an average ticket price of $9, the same as during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In the five-year history of the franchise, ticket prices have gone up just once -- by one dollar.
"One of the main reasons this team exists is to help bring affordable family entertainment to our hometown of Long Island," said Bay Shore native and team owner Frank Boulton. "We are very pleased by the support we have received from the community and we are looking forward to 2005."
This season, Long Island welcomed their two-millionth fan and enjoyed a total attendance of 440,540 during the regular season. In the playoffs the club sold out three of four playoff dates, the only playoff sellouts in over 170 minor league playoff games played this season. On July 28, the team reached the magical two million fan mark faster than any professional sports team with a stadium the size of Citibank Park (capacity 6,002). On July 4, the Ducks welcomed a record-breaking crowd of 7,101 to the ballpark, eclipsing the previous mark of 6,895 set a year earlier. Their average attendance of 6,119 marked the fifth straight season Long Island has played to over 100 percent capacity. The Ducks have led the Atlantic League in total attendance and average attendance in all five years they have been in existence.
In a recent report published by Street & Smith's Sports Business Daily, the Ducks ranked 32nd out of over 210 minor league teams in 2004 total attendance. 30 of the 31 teams ranked ahead of Long Island have ballparks with a larger capacity than Citibank Park. In addition, the team's 101.9 percent capacity average ranks eighth out of the top 50 teams in the report.
The Long Island Ducks, 2004 Atlantic League Champions, play their home games at Citibank Park and just completed their fifth anniversary season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have filled their ballpark to over 100 percent capacity for five consecutive seasons and are one of the most successful minor league franchises in the country.
