Ducks Lose to Pats

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 9, 2009) - On a historic Sunday at Citibank Park, the Long Island Ducks welcomed back former greats to their old stopping ground to celebrate their 10th Anniversary Season. As the Somerset Patriots defeated the Flock 4-3 before a past-capacity crowd of 6,327, legends such as Francisco Morales, Pat Lennon, Doug Jennings, Jason Johnson, Kimera Bartee, and Justin Davies were on hand for one more day in the spotlight.
A pre-game ceremony including ceremonial first pitches, an All-Time Team photo and video tributes highlighted their accomplishments throughout the franchises illustrious history.
In the game, Travis Anderson helped Somerset grabbed an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the second inning off Ducks' starter Jake Dittler..
The Ducks tied up the contest with single runs in the second and third innings off Pats' starter Brian Adams. George Lombard's fourth dinger of the season in the second put the Flock on the board and Lombard's RBI single in the third evened the score at two.
The Pats quickly regained the lead in the subsequent inning as Anderson's RBI groundout plated Nettles, who reached base on a one-out walk.
In the last of the sixth, four hits including a RBI base hit through the left side by Matt Cavagnaro tied the game at three.
The score would remain even until the top of eighth as Anderson blooped a RBI base hit to right off Ducks' reliever Hansel Izquierdo to give the Pats a 4-3 advantage.
Jared Gothreaux (5-6) earned the win with one and one third-innings pitched. Izquierdo (0-2) was saddled with the loss tossing one inning, allowing one hit and one run.
The Ducks will enjoy an off day on Monday and then hit the road for a six-game road trip beginning Tuesday at Southern Maryland. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m at Regency Furniture Stadium. Long Island returns to Citibank Park on Monday, August 17, and welcome the Bridgeport Bluefish in for a three-game series.
