Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks (18-9, 48-42) defeated the Somerset Patriots (19-10, 54-38) 10-7 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.
The Ducks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Daniel Fields (6) and a three-run shot by David Washington (17).
Long Island put up three more runs in the top of the second inning on a bases loaded walk to Fields and a two-run single by Travis Snider that made the score 7-0.
The Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Justin Trapp (5) and an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez that cut the lead to 7-2.
A solo home run by Matt Oberste (2) made it a 7-3 ballgame in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Somerset kept chipping away with two more runs in the fifth inning. The first run scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramon Flores. Rodriguez then laced a no doubt-solo home run (4) to left field to make the score 7-5.
Fields' RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning and Ramon Cabrera's solo homer (1) in the eighth inning put the Ducks up 9-5.
The Patriots rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run base hit by Oberste to make the score 9-7. Oberste finished the game 2-for-4 with a run, a home run, and three RBI.
Long Island made it a 10-7 game, which would be the final, with a run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI groundout by Lew Ford.
Carlos Pimentel (1-3) picked up the win with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. Kyle Davies (5-6) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits in five innings pitched. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 20th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts.
