Ducks Drop Series Opener to Road Warriors

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Road Warriors 3-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Road Warriors built an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the second inning and another in the third off Ducks starter Tyler Badamo. An RBI double by Gerardo Valentin and a leadoff solo home run to left field by Osvaldo Martinez highlighted the scoring.

The Ducks closed to within 3-1 in the fifth against Road Warriors starter Kelvin Villa on doubles from Daniel Fields and Jordany Valdespin. However, Long Island could not pull even.

Villa (2-6) earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Badamo (2-5) suffered the hard-luck loss in his Ducks debut, yielding three runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings of work while striking out four. Andrew Johnston collected his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.

Dan Lyons had two hits for the Flock. Wander Perez pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Ducks, yielding just one hit.

The Ducks and Road Warriors continue their three-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by The Rinx at Hidden Pond Park. In addition, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Dick's Sporting Goods as fans exit the ballpark following the fireworks show. Right-hander John Brownell (3-6, 4.13) takes the mound for the Ducks against Road Warriors righty Mike Lee (0-3, 5.92).
