(Farmingville, N.Y., December 21, 2010) - On Tuesday, The Long Island Ducks spent the morning with Kyle Wasson and all of his classmates at Lynwood Elementary School in Farmingville. Kyle was the 2nd of four winners in the TD Bank Take a Duck to Class Essay Contest and as part of his prize he received a special visit from QuackerJack and All-Star Ray Navarrete.
Before the assembly was underway, Farmingville Branch Manager Tom Kelly and Vice President of Suburban New York Marketing, Eric Fishon, presented Kyle with a Visa gift card. Kyle read his winning essay in front of 70 fellow students and took pictures with QuackerJack. After Kyle finished reading his essay, Navarrete spoke to the children about the importance of community and education in his life and career. When the questions were over, Ray and QuackerJack headed up to Kyle's first grade classroom where they signed autographs. Each student in Kyle's class was given a gift bag full of goodies courtesy of TD Bank.
Contestants were able to pick up applications from local TD Bank locations, and after, submitted an essay on "Why my community is important to me." Out of hundreds of essays received from all over the Island, four winners were selected. Each winner receives a visit from a Ducks player and Long Island's most popular mascot, QuackerJack. The winners also receive a Visa gift card from TD Bank and each student in the winners' class receives a gift bag, courtesy of TD Bank.
Following is a listing of the two remaining essay contest winners and their scheduled visit dates:
Tuesday, 1/11/11: RJO Intermediate School in Kings Park. Winner: Julia Labrador
Tuesday, 2/8/11: East Islip Middle School in East Islip. Winner: Krista Cook
