Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Lukas Parik made 24 stops for his second straight win and Dubuque held on to beat Des Moines 3-2 on Saturday night. The Saints continue to roll, moving to 7-1 against the Western Conference this season.

-Dubuque got off to a slow start, with Des Moines firing seven of the first 10 shots on net. The Bucs received the first power play but were unable to capitalize. Lukas Parik looked sharp once again with nine stops in the first period.

-After the slow start, Dubuque got their legs in the second half of the first period. The Saints drew a few late penalties in the period and cashed in late on a 5 on 3. Matt Savoie netted his sixth goal of the season in just his fifth game.

-Dubuque doubled their lead fairly early in the second period, thanks to a strong shift from the fourth line. Primo Self found an open spot in the coverage and sent a backhand past Remington Koeple for the second of the game.

-The Buccaneers took a five-minute major as Zach Faremouth was ejected for boarding Braden Doyle. Shortly after both teams got into it resulting in four-on-four play for two minutes. During the even strength battle, Doyle scored his third of the season with a rip from the left circle.

-Matt Savoie assisted on the Doyle goal, with a beautiful feed from below the goal line. Savoie's goal and assist give him three multi-point games in his first five in the USHL.

-Once again Parik was the backstop the Saints needed, stepping in for 17 saves through two periods of play. In his first five periods, Parik made 47 saves on 48 shots.

-Des Moines did not go silently as they made a late push in the third period. It started for the Bucs with a goal from Sam Renlund with just over 12 minutes left in regulation. Renlund took three whacks before pushing the puck past Parik.

-The Bucs then pulled the goalie with over three minutes left in the game and scored quickly after doing so. Paul Davey grabbed the tally to make it a one goal game.

-Parik made a few key stops late and the Saints blocked plenty of shots late in the game too to finish off the hard fought win. It was not without late drama, including a huge scrum late which saw Parik sent off for the final second.

-The two teams combined for 69 penalty minutes and will go right back at it on Sunday afternoon. The Saints will look for a four-win week.
