
Duarte's Pair Earns Bulldogs 6-4 Win over IceDogs

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The rivalry continued Friday night between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Niagara IceDogs at the FirstOntario Centre. The first period was a tight and physical battle between the teams. There were lots of chances for each team, but the IceDogs capitalized and opened the scoring with Jake Uberti finding his way to the net for a powerplay goal at 4:51.
Avery Hayes answered back to get his fourth goal of the season on the powerplay at 14:13 from Lawson Sherk & Nathan Staios. The first period would end in a 1-1 tie thanks to the work of Tucker Tynan & Matteo Drobac.
The second period started off evenly matche d but not for long, Hamilton's own Mark Duarte fought hard in front of the net with the help of Ryan Humphrey off a Gavin White point shot at 10:42 giving the Bulldogs a one goal lead. Four minutes later Niagara would score the game tying goal at 13:35 from Danil Guschkin. With Nathan Staios in the box, Niagara capitalized on the powerplay to score at 16:53 for Pano Fimis' second goal of the season putting Niagara up 3-2. One minute later Chandler Romeo would fire from the point at 17:47 for his first goal in the OHL, answering the call to tie up the game. With just 48 seconds left in the period Logan Morrison would twist a shot from the slot past Tynan, his 4th of the season, at 19:12 to give the Bulldogs the 4-3 advantage heading into the third period.
The Bulldogs would head into the third period with 1:32 left in Lawson Sherk's penalty, killing it off to give a strong start to the final frame. At 4:21 however, the IceDogs would score to tie it up once again on Danil Gushchin's 2nd of the game. At 12:18, Hamilton snuck one through Tynan on the powerplay from Lawson Sherk and assisted by Staios and Diaco to put themselves back ahead with the clock running down. The team's rivalry would boil over with, Romeo and Brice Cooke having words and fists for each other with six minutes left of the game. With just 18 seconds left the Bulldogs were able to secure their victory with an empty net goal scored by Duarte, his second of the night, and propelling the Bulldogs to a hard fought 6 - 4 win over the IceDogs.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon for the Zombie game against the Mississauga Steelheads at 4:00pm at FirstOntario Centre.
