Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Fluor Field will once again be the place to experience the ultimate in affordable, family-friendly entertainment as the Greenville Drive have announced their promotional schedule for the 2009 season. The 70-game home schedule is highlighted by 15 fireworks shows, new and unique themed nights, and national entertainment acts.
Opening Week, presented by Carolina First, kicks everything off on Monday, April 13th and is shaping up to be one of the best as the Drive begin their fourth season in downtown Greenville. Opening Day will feature a celebrity first pitch, a memorable opening ceremony with pyrotechnics, as well as local television and radio stations doing live-remotes from Fluor Field to capture all of the excitement.
Drive Co-owner and President, Craig Brown, commented on the start of the 2009 season saying, "This year promises to be another exciting season of Drive baseball at Fluor Field. We have a lineup of outstanding family-friendly entertainment that fans of all ages will enjoy. Our goal is to have a full evening of fun mixed with top notch baseball, featuring top prospects within the Boston Red Sox organization. It is our objective to blend these elements together to create a memorable experience for all who come to Fluor Field."
Fans will also have a chance to experience new themed nights during Opening Week, such as Munchie Mondays and Affiliate Tuesdays, as well as fan favorites from previous seasons including $1 Drink Night on Thursdays, Firework Fridays, and Sunday Family FunDay.
"We have added new themed nights and promotions for fans of all ages, as well as brought back the favorites," noted Drive General Manager, Mike deMaine. "During these challenging economic times it's our goal to provide the most affordable form of family entertainment, while providing lasting memories 70 times this season."
During every Monday game, with the exception of Opening Night, kids 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog, a 12 ounce Pepsi product, and a bag of chips. Baseball enthusiasts will not want to miss out on any of the nine Affiliate Tuesdays, in which the attention will turn to the parent club of the Drive's opponents with facts, videos, and specialty food items including Maryland crab cakes (Delmarva Shorebirds, affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), Philly Cheesesteaks (Lakewood BlueClaws, affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies), and Texas-style barbecue (Hickory Crawdads, affiliate of the Texas Rangers).
Fan favorites will return as the Drive schedule heads into the weekend, with $1 Drink Nights on Thursdays. For the younger fans at Fluor Field, they can purchase a 12 ounce Pepsi product at any of the concession stands for just a dollar, while those fans 21 years of age and older can head over to the Spinx 500 Club for dollar draught specials and live music. 15 fireworks shows will highlight Friday games, the most ever at Fluor Field. Saturdays will feature national entertainment acts such as Reggy (April 18 & 19), Wally the Green Monster (May 30 & 31), and ZOOperstars! (June 13). Sundays will once again be Family FunDay in which kids get to run the bases following the conclusion of the game.
As in previous seasons, entire home stands will also have specific themes. May 11-18 will be Heroes Week in which the Drive will pay tribute to teachers, police, firefighters, healthcare workers, and military personnel. May 28-June 4 will be the second installment of Red Sox Nation as the entertainment centers around the Boston Red Sox. All-American Fest returns July 4-11, featuring the 2nd Annual Drive Eating Contest on the Fourth of July.
A new theme in 2009 will be Holiday Week, July 22-29, when the Drive pack Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Reedy's Birthday, Valentine's Day, President's Day, and St. Patty's Day all into an eight-game home stand. Upstate Fest will once again spotlight Upstate communities - Greenville, the Golden Strip, Easley, Anderson, and Spartanburg - from August 4-7. The Drive's fourth installment of Green Day, in which we celebrate the City of Greenville's Birthday, is planned for Tuesday, August 4th.
"We've had three great seasons of affordable family entertainment with Drive baseball," stated deMaine. "This year, we're offering more regular season fireworks, kids eat free on Mondays, Affiliate Tuesdays, and so much more, making the overall fan experience at Fluor Field even better than ever."
