Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Behind a big day at the plate from Victor Acosta and another terrific start from Denyi Reyes, the Greenville Drive defeated the Lexington Legends 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field and extended their winning streak to seven games.
Acosta recorded four extra-base hits for the Drive (15-9, 40-53) in the game, as he doubled in his first three trips and cranked a solo homer in the eighth to complete his perfect afternoon at the plate. He drove in two of Greenville's three runs.
Reyes (9-3) has been dominant on the mound all season, and he continued that on Sunday by shutting down the Legends (9-14, 46-45) for seven innings. The right-hander struck out six and allowed just two hits without issuing a walk.
The Drive got on the board in the bottom of the second against Carlos Hernandez (6-4) with back-to-back one-out doubles by Pedro Castellanos and Acosta.
Three straight hits in the fifth extended the lead to 2-0. Kervin Suarez doubled to right-center, moved to third on a single by Ryan Fitzgerald and came home when Tanner Nishioka stroked a double off the wall in center.
Lexington scratched across their first run of the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Ricky Aracena, but Devon Fisher came in with two outs and the bases full and got Nick Pratto to fly out to end the threat.
Acosta added an insurance run in the eighth with a 385-foot solo blast to left-center for his eighth homer of the year.
Fisher threw a scoreless ninth to log his fifth save of the year.
Fitzgerald went 2-4 at the plate for Greenville.
The Drive look to keep the winning streak going on Monday night at Fluor Field at 7:05. Right-hander Kutter Crawford (4-4, 2.83) takes the ball for the Drive, and the Legends will counter with right-hander Charlie Neuwiler (0-0, 2.25).
