Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive may have experienced a hitting drought over their previous three games but they brought that to a halt Sunday, putting on a clinic as they defeated the Hickory Crawdads 10-4 at Fluor Field.
After both starters tossed scoreless first innings, they were each victimized for three runs in the next inning. The Crawdads tallied just one hit in their at bat off Eammon Portice (2-3), but capitalized off a walk and two errors. Greenville answered back with a trio of runs as David Mailman collected two RBI and Che-Hsuan Lin added another. Mike Jones began the inning with a leadoff double, extending his hitting streak to 18 games.
The Crawdads regained the lead in the top of the third, only to see it diminish quickly as the Drive scored at least one run in their final five at bats. Kristopher Negron plated the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI-double.
In the sixth, Greenville extended their lead with three more runs. Ty Weeden doubled in a pair of runs and Negron added an RBI-single.
Eight of the Drive's nine batters recorded at least one hit, while four tallied a multi-hit contest. Mailman led all batters with three hits, adding a pair of RBI and four runs scored.
Out of the bullpen Daniel Bard and Felix Ventura combined to hold the Crawdads scoreless over the final four innings as each tossed two frames. Bard allowed just one hit while fanning four, extending his season scoreless inning streak to 18.0 innings. Ventura tossed 2.0 perfect innings, striking out two.
The Drive and Crawdads conclude their three-game series tomorrow evening with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville will send right-hander Terumasa Matsuo to the hill as Hickory counters with right-hander Dustin Molleken.
